05-09-03 - 19:38 - Look ma! News! - Kalief

Well, thought I'd post something here to pass the time if nothing else.

WoT News: Arena Cup 2003 Run by Smo and yours truly, recently joined by The Walker Boh, who will admin the north american partion. There will be 16 players in both divisions, and it will be 1 on 1 duel games, sigle elimination, all legend maps. Check the site for more info. http://www.maqn.com/arenacup/index.phpWoT

WoT at War II: Not much info on this tourney as of yet, but it will be something similar to the first one. Though it seems it will consist of some new gametypes including team arena and shadowed destiny cit.

Well, ill be back with more. Some music befor you go, who can forgot the great White Tower track some the sigleplayer. I certainly can't. http://www.wheeloftime.com/WhiteTower.mp3

23-04-02 - 07:12 - It CAN'T be back, CAN IT? - Sambar

Muahaha! All hail the news script! *bows to Peppe*

That's right, it's your rambunctious C-G Sambar here again, broadcasting news to those lucky few who check this site occasionally and aren't actually in the clan.

Though Zephyr, Westwolf, Lews, Aurian, Woman, and High Lord Kram have been brightening #calhar for some time now, and recruitment has long since been halted, they still deserve an official welcome here. Huzzah for the noobs! (sorry Aurian and Kram ;)) The HotA tourney, while rather disastrous for the clan, provided a good training ground for the recruits. With KOA4, the balefire tourney, the summer HotA tourney, 6 hour tourney, and SaC cit 2-day tourney coming up, we'll soon see whether the young apprentices are ready to take on the jedi masters :}

With Wolfenstein proving to be less long-lived than Wheel of Time, a game almost 2 years its senior, Bringer has turned his energy from storming the beach to creating a swathe of new maps, and this combined with several SaC servers has allowed more training - more EFFECTIVE training - to go ahead. So thanks to Lews and the {censored!} brothers =) I could tell you about the maps, but then I'd have to kill you.

Finally, the entire WoT community has decided to proclaim us Greatest Clan Ever, in honour of our dedication, fair play, loyalty, and sense of fun! YAY!

OK, that was a lie, it was just me. But a proclaimation from the Commander of the Fjesing Armies is just as good as anything those people could come up with ;)

22-04-02 - 12:48 - News Script - Peppe

The news script is back!

26-00-02 - 17:21 - Sallying forth into the New Year -

SaC has made something of a comeback this last month, with increased activity thanks to the Heroes of the Ages Tournament, and the recruiting of a swathe of hitherto clanless fighters.

Elandria is our newest member, an EQ player with an attitude, who we hope to see more of in #calhar! Voting on two more applicants is now underway. This should ensure we never have insufficient players for a match again...

Talmanes has become a force to be reckoned with though he has been with us only a short time under the tutelage of the cavalier Carnifex. Icestorm has returned from overseas to his hometown of Mackay, Oz, and will soon discover the difference that playing from here makes ;) Shadowkiller has demonstrated all the right attributes for a Recruitment Officer, and has taken over the role that Carnifex once managed (although there are few things that need improvement!).

As far as the tourney goes, we are now in Week 2, our first match against C13 a loss, and our game tomorrow against S'A in outposts. The following week we have a bye. A friendly match has been scheduled against FUBAR.

January, it seems, is the month of birthdays. Congratulations Bringer, Manhammer, and Kalief. The next one to watch out for, I believe, is Naroar's, on the 15th of February. Give him some birthday fireballs from me ;)

That leads me to the matter of my imminent absence. A whole lot of things have gone wrong, money has dribbled away, and I will be losing internet access from home for the next 6 months or so. Shen an Calhar will continue to prosper in Bringer and Carnifex's capable hands, I have no doubt. Peppe has worked hard and reliably to maintain all things that fall under the programmer's jurisdiction, and now we have Shadowkiller for PR and recruitment. I'm gonna miss you =)

CARAI SHEN AN CALHAR!

03-00-02 - 18:59 - 2002 -

Happy New Year all...from the clan born back in 1999. I can't believe I'm not sick of it yet! *plays D for Dream, forcing him to cap 12 times in order to win the game* Ooooooh yeaaahhhhh ;) In other news, the rules for the HotA tourney have been better defined; Trenn's tourney is going slowly, as {?} has challenged HotH but they are 3 matches behind, and it may be a while before we play our next match (probably a good thing as Ratatoski and Five haven't been seen for a while). Did I mention there's a new clan called Siswaiaman which fancies itself as elite and has treacherously enticed several people who should know better than to betray their previous clans? But that is a rant for another day ;) Bringer is still hanging out in Byron, I am finally back in Sydney, Kalief will be returning shortly to the evil wastelands of the North, and Ice will not be back online until sometime around Australia Day (if you don't know when that is, look it up ;)

Have a great holidays everyone, what's left of them :}

26-11-01 - 23:36 - SaC is strengthened... -

...with a victory over SS'T and the acquisition of SmokiE (which doubles our Finnish contingent (woohoo!). A challenge issued to AL for the 27th went undefended as their members were unavailable for that date. We shall meet them at a later date.

Battle report from the SS'T match is as follows: (23/12/01)Kalief, Dream and Carnifex triumphed today over the evil forces of the Sons of Shai'tan, represented by Satyr, the Black Knight, and Nakiga. For now the banner of the red hand flies proudly over the defeated ruins of their citadel. Yeah!

In the first game, played on outposts (SaC was Aes Sedai), four seals were claimed after 22 minutes by our intrepid warriors, Kalief with the highest kills (17) and Kalief/Dream (?) capping. The Black Knight wins the award for highest ping (1355) while Carns was the lowest (98).

In the second game, details provided by Carnifex are as follows: 'I didn't get a screenie. We lost. Don't know how.' Erm...congrats SS'T! lol. We think Satyr capped. Maybe :}

In the third game, on Bone Orchard, as Aes sedai once more, SaC was victorious after 46 minutes, Satyr with highest score (11) and Dream/Kalief capping one each. Everyone's pings appeared below 250.

Reportedly it was a fair and challenging series of games, kudos to SS'T and...CARAI SHEN AN CALHAR =)

20-11-01 - 16:04 - New Members Ahoy! -

Huzzah, Hooray, Congratulations and Carai Shen an Calhar to our newest recruits Shadowkiller and Icestorm. There can be no greater honour than to wear the tag of the glorious Band of the Red Hand!

Meanwhile we find ourselves enrolled in another tourney (of Guardian's) that begins in January. I hope some of our military men are still hanging around for the event...in any case, we should take advantage of them being home for the holidays and bump up our activity *crosses fingers* =)

Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year, faithful warriors!

03-10-01 - 13:22 - Peppe plays in Clan match! -

Wow, 3 updates in one day! But how could I resist announcing to the world that [SaC]Peppe graced the servers today, representing his clan against the evil BoD (who were supposed to play D't, but it was a no show) and getting more kills than me =)

Kalief, Carnifex, Peppe, and yours truly battled until time expired against the heinous Jasin, Cinderhead, GedtheReal, Link, and some Noogie guy. The map was sands, we were whitecloaks, finished 2 seals all with Kalief a couple of steps away from our altar.

Highlights: Me fireballing Carn; Peppe fireballing me; Kalief fireballing Peppe; Carn complaining about lag (lol)...ahem, ok the real highlight was just having 4 SaCs on a team, it's pretty special whenever that happens, no matter how often (or how scarcely, hehehe)

Sambar out

03-10-01 - 10:00 - Oh yeah, and... -

Maybe I should do a REAL update ;)

SaC is 2 years and a few months old now, we'e gotten a little quieter in our old age but haven't been tossed off the family cliff as yet ;) Our fearless leader al'Gibbur is still in the army, Sandman is on a boat somewhere learning...err...navy type stuff, and Kalief is home on a couple days leave but he'll disappear shortly back to the frozen wastelands of the far north to stand guard duty in -17 degrees!

Some of our original members we see rarely, but they seem to still be alive. Bjaer is working too hard as always and married now, and GestuR pops his head up occasionally. Manhammer sneaks around out there - we see only his silvery shadow as he posts ;) And where did Naroar go??? =)

Others will always be #calhar junkies...Sorbet plays Starcraft, KarRL plays Counterstrike, Bringer plays Return to Castle Wolfenstein. We all owe the latter our thanks for snapping up shenancalhar.org and fixing our spiffy new email accounts. Also thanks to Peppe for all his hard work changing it all over!

Ryoga, Angel, Zeech, and Carnifex can also be seen in our most illustrious of chat rooms. With an upcoming tourney - the Great Hunt - I've tried to enthuse them about playing, but the walrus never checks the forums, zeech is preoccupied with his yummysam, and carnifex is off fighting for justice and the American way, which leaves Angel, me, and The New Guy, Talmanes, to represent us in Trennik's last ditch effort to squeeze some interest and possibly even matches from the community ;)

Then there are the junkies who aren't in the clan. Jair, Rille, and Fivedays. It's always fun to have visitors that aren't just there because of an imminent clan match, hehehe. And if Chanserv misses Thom, Arindelle, Lan and Ratatoski, it has not complained so far ;)

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough. Lil Carnifex is demanding his breakfast. You can hear what he has to say about the matter here: http://www.angelfire.com/in2/thebadger/lil_carnifex2.wav

22-06-01 - 00:50 - New Members and the Second Breaking - Sambar

I go, I come back, NO-ONE UPDATES THE SITE!!!

Well, Scandinavia rocked, and I return home to find us in the middle of The Second Breaking Tournament, where we are in the same division as 4R, AL, BoD and one of the BT teams. So far we're doing rather mediocrely, but it was a pleasure to play today with Sandman, Kalief and Bringer; just like old times :)

Not that we dont love our new members!

CARNIFEX - the younger brother of the enigmatic Bringer of Death and crazy American in his own right (put that bf down!)

LIONESS - Stalked by Carnifex until she agreed to join, never seen her in cit but we hope to drag her out of Arena at some stage

RYOGA - About time we got some benefits of old clans breaking up! The Finn (or Walrus as he likes to be known), previously synonymous with TTO, is a welcome addition to the ranks

Til next time

Thanks AL for a great match!

All games were completely fair and hard-fought. First game Bone2, we were hounds and lost 3 seals to 1. Second game, same map, we were aes and won 4 seals to 0 (that's the game I didn't play in! rofl). Final game was Outposts 2, we were forsaken and lost 3 seals to 1. JOLLY GOOD GAMES!

11-02-01 - 02:08 - Out with WotW, on with friendlies! - Sambar

After another loss to CotL in the WotW tourney, SaC has dropped out, neglecting to rebel in an attempt to stay in. Pure speculation on my behalf would suggest that the clans we faced in that tourney used too much ww for the games to be much fun, and that even with 7th as allies we couldn't come out on top. *shrugs*

On Saturday our tourney team, who at least had quite a bit of practice playing together during WotW, faced up against a HotH team consisting of two hunters, a Twit and a former canary. Wins were all for us. Thanks to Trennik for organising it, and a big kick in the butt for Jair who didn't turn up ;)

A challenge to C13 is pending, and possibly one against CD. Stay tuned!

24-01-01 - 15:06 - WotW tourney ...and Dyret arrives - Sambar

SaC snuck into this tourney after the WB quit, and it grows smaller as various clans (Gray men, Legends) take their leave of it, but we've seen quite a bit of action thanks to the efforts of Kalief, Manhammer, and Bringer, who seem to have everything in hand :)

Wins over MK have seen us knocking at the door to their capital, and losses to CotL have seen them knocking at the door to ours. A challenge to BT has just been posted.

7th has finally answered our call for alliance - in the positive, and that Old Man Nero played alongside Dream, Hammer and Kalief in our last match :)

All goes reasonably well so far :)

In other news, no-one except Kalief turned up for a match against the Herons (ahem canaries). OOPS!

And welcome to our newest member Dyret (another Norwegian! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE! ;). Since I don't recall Angel getting her name up here when she joined, welcome Angel as well ;)

06-00-01 - 16:20 - SaC is victorious over SoL...in citadel :) - Sambar

Today, for the first time in ages, SaC's best team marched onto the battlefield - al'Gibbur, Sandman, Kalief and Manhammer. And they did not disappoint.

SoL is an arena clan, yet they are no pushover under any circumstances. Both games (played in Outposts and Heresy) were won by SaC, 3-1 in the first and 4-0 in the second game.

Thanks Laman for setting it up (sorry about the mix up of weekends) and to Rampant, Braden and Lucipher for the gg's. Hope you enjoyed the rare opportunity to see Gibbur using something other than balefire ;) Quote of the day comes from Sandman our Capping God:

'Best player on outpost was the myrdraal who shot me in mid air :)'

hehehe

I'll be looking over my shoulder next time I play arena ;)

06-00-01 - 14:44 - Informal game with a few Fog Men last week - Sambar

Things are starting to Happen with a capital H in the Shen an Calhar camp. Now occupying former Wolfbrother territory in the WotW tourney, a match with MK looms on the horizon. Also, it has been almost a year since SaC and BT played the first WoT clan match ever and we are looking to turn the tables on them this time in an Anniversary Match to be held on the 13th of January.

In an informal game played against the newly formed clan Mashadar, fears that they are the next elite clan have evaporated like...well...fog on a hot summer's day! A reputedly hilarious but highly lagged and crazily confusing game finished with 3 seals to SaC and 1 to Mashadar (and it was said to be hovering over Bringer's head when the time ran out). Hurrah for Kalief, Bringer, KarRL and our Fearless Leader al'Gibbur... and also for the M players Carnage, Macbeth, Balwen and Masangar. Love ya Pinkie...nice try ;)

A practice match against SoL is currently in progress...stay tuned for the results!

In recent news, SaC has been ousted from the Seal Tourney... our final seal was lost to 4R. Good luck to them going up against 7th and G. 20-01-00 - 00:05 - Better late than never =) - C-G al'Gibbur

I'm very sorry for this huge lack of updates, I've been very very busy and very very lazy.

Lots of things has happened since the last update, it has been christmas and we've entered a new year. Lots of new wot programs has been released, among them are: 333 patch, 333b patch, servercon program, THUMB program and tons of new maps. We've also played our first official clan match against The Black Tower, they defeated us with 2-1 in matches, screen shots are available at the battle page.

Gestur and I arranged a wot lan for the Swedish members of the clan, www.calhar.dhs.org/lan, everything went well, unfortunately a dedicated wot server was way more system demandig than I thought, this caused a modem ping on the 4on4 citadel server
(PII 233, 97Mb). Therefor we played arena 4-5 players. We also played lots of counter strike, which was quite fun. We'll try to fix a switch and a better server to the next LAN.

As usual we've got some new members, they should have been welcomed long time ago but... anyway, welcome:

The joining period is now over, people will still be able to become members but they'll have to talk with me first.
In the near future I'll make a research to sort out inactive members.

We've been very inactive for a while, so I'll try to fix some matches for the weekend (officiall or practice), Post a note in our forum if you can play. If we don't find any clan to play we should atleast play some training matches.
Especially since I've now submitted us to the seal tournament at wotclans.com. If you've got any good tips/strategies please send me a mail and I'll update the members only section.

Salish has left the clan =(, I want to thank him for starting up this clan and running it. You've done a great job and you are welcome back =) This means I'm MG (Marshal General) for [SaC]

We're now officiall supporters of the upcoming mod: Shadowed Destiny

And last, the usual reminder: All members shuld join the #calhar channel on gamesnet when they're online.

The Miscellaneous section has gotten two additions, namely two majestic poems by Alantin al'Ashan and Zeech. One suggestion is that we could use this when we head in to battle - as a way to scare our opponents - personally I think that's a great idea.

If you have any comments be sure to use the forum, or the IRC channel, that is in desperate need of traffic - it's on EFNet, under the name #Calhar.

This means we totally have 70 members.

I think everyone already know about this but I'll mention it anyway.
Since 70 members is way to many (normal quake clans have about 10 members) we'll arrange some sort of tryout and pick out the best ones. But we'll devide the clan into some kinda "skill banners":

  • Elite banner
  • Good banner
  • Normal banner

  • Each banner will play other clans with equal skill.
For example: the elite banner will fight against other elite clans and their goal is to be one of the best clans etc.
This means real newbies probably won't get a place in one of the banners. We're sorry about this but it's neccessary since we don't want to be known as a "newbieclan" and since it's hard to organize a clan with 70 members. Members with an administrative role won't be "kicked" if they play bad.
Personally I think there should be about 10 members in each banner.

And now on to some very good news.
The demo version of WoT is about to be released within a day or two =). And within a week or two, I think, we'll see the full version in the stores =)

    Untill next time!

    02-09-99 - 23:16 - A bunch of updates - C-G al'Gibbur

Now I've made the changes Feldar has talked about for a very long time =). I've deleted the community link and replaced it with a forum link. The BB links under community are moved to the links page. And if you click on the forum link you'll find some info about our clan forum and IRC. Also, on the rank page I've added a list of the banners and the people in them.

Well Feldar thought he fixed it but he deleted the news with content of the second banner and renamed the correct first banner post to "Forming the second banner"
It's fixed know but we lost Salish news about the second banner.

The Band of the Red Hand was originally a legendary group of warriors of Manetheren. They gained fame around the world for their bravery and valor during the Trolloc Wars. It is said they were the last soldiers to fall, guarding King Aemon, when Manetheren fell.

The Band of the Red Hand are followers of the light and can therefor not stand silent while followers of the Dark One walk the earth. We will seek out, interrogate, prosecute and exterminate any darkfriends we come across.

    Poems:

It should not amaze anyone that such a fantastic heritage as Manetheren's would inspire poetry. We have two very talented writers in Shen an Calhar.
Click here to read Alantin al'Ashan's piece. And here is something just as brilliant and awe-inspiring by Zeech.

    Films:

But while you're waiting for the game to come out you can download al'Gibbur's .avi film of a spinning ashandarei.

  • Shen an Calhar is one of the oldest remaining clans in the WoT community, we strive to uphold certain ideals - especially sportsmanship. Skill level isn't that important, beeing a good sport is.

When we're notified on your request to join we will send you some questions by e-mail (just to get to know you better). SaC members will then do a vote on the private forum.

SaC has recently recruited alot of new blood, we are therefore not recruiting at this time. We try instead to teach our young ones, to give them a better understanding of the game.

Although, we're not entirely closed down. If you feel SaC is the only place you'll want to be, post something about yourself on our Public Forum. And we'll contact you with more information.

Here are the different ways in which you can discuss with others about our clan, the game and the books.

    1. Our own clan forum
Here you can discuss things about the clan and post going away messages etc. But please try to follow these simple rules:

  • Respect everybody, and use 'appropriate' language.
  • Try to keep the topic close to The Band of the Red Hand

  • 2. IRC - Internet Relay Chat (#Calhar; GAMESNet)
As you probably know The Band of the Red Hand has it's own IRC channel. IRC is a network divided in to subnetworks which contains channels where you can discuss various things without any real delay. The most widely spread Windows client is mIRC. We previously used EFNet, but have now switched over to GAMESNet. The channel name is #calhar. We also have our own little bot called Angreal. For some statistics, click here (NOT FUNCTIONAL). For detailed statistics, click these magic words (NOT FUNCTIONAL).
Here is a GAMESNet server that should work:
  • irc.gamesnet.net
  • If you have questions about the clan or if you want to contact us for other reasons, then you should talk to Sambar, Sorbet or al'Gibbur.
